We're updating on July 11th

While Apple is releasing its new iPhone around the globe, Bits on the Run will be updating to a newer, more improved version. Because of this update our Video Management System will be unavailable for a couple of minutes tomorrow morning (July 11th, CEST). The new update will bring some improvements to the VMS and our transcoder, but it will also introduce some new features.

Most notably the new update brings our users the new JW Player 4.0 which was released last week. At first this new player may look the same as the old player, but the architecture is completely renewed, which is mostly reflected in our VMS inside the player tab. Styling a player is different and to explain how it will work we will post a tutorial tomorrow in our blog.

The new player also enables a better integration with our streaming server, which results in better performance overall. We will also give our users more control over securing their content. The users will decide for themselves if they allow downloads of their files or not. They are also able to either whitelist or blacklist sites that may or may not play their content. Although these safety measures are not 100% waterproof, they do make it more difficult to misuse video content. Our next update will increase the security of our streams even further by introducing tokenized streaming.

Apart from the new features mentioned above, you will notice small changes and improvements throughout our complete VMS. However the update comes with a drawback: to update our services, all our servers will be down for a couple of minutes tomorrow morning (CEST). We promise that we keep the downtime to an absolute minimum and we hope you will enjoy our new update.
