Content Delivery

Next to transcoding and managing, Bits on the Run also takes care of delivering the video to your audience. Due to our CDN partnerships, we can handle massive loads. Next to the actual video files, we deliver a number of other files, such as JPG thumbnails, RSS feeds and preview pages.
CDN powered
We do not stream your videos ourselves, but use dedicated Content delivery networks to ensure we can handle massive loads and your videos are always up. The CDNs we work with are Bitgravity and Highwinds. Both of them maintain a large number of datacenters around the globe, ensuring your video streams smoothly everywhere.
Amazon Cloudfront
Alternatively, use your own Amazon Cloudfront account for content delivery. You'll then not pay us any traffic costs. Contact us if you want to use another custom CDN. We support anything that has FTP upload functionalities and RTMP or HTTP streaming.
Dynamic streaming
Video in Bits on the Run players (we use the popular JW Player) is delivered streaming, which allows for quick starts and instant seeking to not-yet-downloaded parts. Our bitrate switching technology delivers the optimal quality to any client, seamlessly switching if bandwidth conditions change. Our fallback logic allows users on mobile devices (such as the iPhone) or computers without Flash to still be able to play the video.
Security
In the management dashboard, restrict video delivery to secure your videos against theft. Opt to disallow direct downloads and/or manage a whitelist of websites that are allowed to embed your videoplayers. Contact us to switch from HTTP to RTMP streaming for additional protection against video downloader tools.
URL Scheme
Leverage our convenient URL scheme to request any of these files from our contentserver:
- The thumbnail of every video or channel, in multiple dimensions.
- All specific conversions of a video.
- RSS feeds of every channel, for services like iTunes, Miro or Google Sitemaps.
- Videoplayer embed codes, in javascript and flash formats.
- Videoplayer preview pages, for quick, no-nonsense previews.
DNS Mask the domain name of our contentserver to always display your own URLs.
