Software Developer
Bits on the Run is seeking developers to work at our office in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Depending on your skills and experience you will work on one or more of our core services. This is what we look for in a developer:
Your skills and experience
- Familiarity with developing Web applications.
- 2+ years of coding experience.
- Experience with languages other than PHP.
- Knowing your way around a *Nix OS.
- Bachelor in computer science or equivalent field experience
- Ability to adapt to quick requirements change and produce solutions accordingly.
- Ability to work and function within a team.
Advantages
If you have knowledge about one or more of the following things, that would be a plus.
- Experience with the Python programming language.
- Experience with one of the following techniques: Turbogears, FFMPEG, MEncoder, (X)HTML, Javascript.
- Experience with developing in a team
- Knowing how to document your code.
- Experience with version control systems.
Other requirements
- Living within a commutable distance from Eindhoven.
- Available for 24-40 hours a week.
- Sufficient English language skills.
- Meet all legal requirements to work in the Netherlands.
Front end developer (part-time)
Apart from more general software developers we are also looking for a specific front end developer. Someone who knows his way around the myriad of browsers. This is primarily a part-time job and the amount of work we can offer depends on the skills you have. However, it will probably be no more than 24 hours/week, unless you also have other developer skills, in which case you also apply for our other vacancy.
Your skills and experience
- Inside out knowledge of CSS
- Knowledge of the different browsers and their particular quirks
- Knowledge of W3C and accessibility standards.
- 2+ years of front end experience
- Ability to adapt to quick requirements change and produce solutions accordingly.
- Ability to work and function within a team.
Javascript knowledge
We only use javascript if it greatly improves our user experience and try to use it wisely. It will be a great advantage if you have experience in working with Javascript. We look for:
- Experience with unobtrusive Javascript
- Experience with one or more Javascript frameworks, preferably jQuery.
- Experience with bad browser habits and debugging.
- Familiarity with Ajax
Other requirements
- Experience with version control systems or the interest to learn about them.
- Being able to commute to our office in Eindhoven at least once a week.
- Sufficient English language skills.
- Meet all legal requirements to work in the Netherlands.
